COAGULATION DEPARTMENT

 

 

The staff of the coagulation department consists of two proffesionals: Professor Toshko Lissitchkov MD, DSc., head of the Department and Director of the Center and Antoaneta Zarkova MD, Assistant Professor.

Our department is the reference diagnostic and consultative department dealing with inherited and aquired coagulation disorders. Patients are refered to us from the whole country.

 

Our activities are various:

 

·Primary diagnosis of the bleeding disorders.

·Testing for inherited hipercoagulable defects.

·Maintaining the national registry of the patients with inherited coagulation disorders.

·Regular folow up of the patients with inherited coagulation disorders from Sofia and several neighbouring regions.

·Consulting patients from the whole country with more complicated medical conditions engaging haemosthasis.

·Maniging perioperative substitution therapy in surgical patients.

·Outpatient and hospital treatment of the patients with coagulation disorders in cases of haemorrhages.

·Managing the home treatment of patients with inherited coagulation disorders.

·Perioperative anticoagulation prophylaxys in patients with malignancy.

·Anticoagulation therapy and control of the patients with thromboembolic events and malignancy.

·Expert assessments of coagulation products for registration in Bulgaria.

·Participation in multicenter clinical trials of coagulation products in patients with haemophilia and von Willebrand disease, II and III phase ( 6 clinical trials performed till now, 3 of which pharmacokinetic.)

·Scientific work in various fields of haemosthasis and presenting it at local and international congresses.

·Teaching haemosthasis for medical students. The participated in a three years international TEMPUS project for the students education in haematology together with Medical Univesities in Italy, France and Spain. A modern multimedia class room was equipped for that purpouse.

·Writing books and manuals on haemosthasis.
